The olive tree is an ancient crop plant from the region around Cordoba. Our NATURATA olive oil from Spain comes from this region in Andalucía where an established family business cultivates organically controlled olives for our oil. Only the local varieties picual and picudo are used.

Picual is the most important Spanish olive variety. It produces a high yield and an oil of excellent quality thanks to its high polyphenol content and natural antioxidants. For this reason it is also often referred to as the “queen of the olives”. This variety of olive which comes from low-lying terrain gives a pleasantly bitter tasting oil whilst the olives from the mountains are fresher and sweeter.

Picudo is also found in Andalucía. Oil made from this type of olive is light and mild with a light fruity taste. The combination of both these varieties results in an oil with a strong and full-bodied aroma.
